Salvator Mundi , or “ Savior of the World ” is a picture by Leonardo da Vinci that ’s been lose for centuries . Art historiographer have confirmed that deeper in the painting , you may see the “ miraculous softness ” and the “ touchy paint ” of Leonardo .

It ’s a picture of Christ blessing the globe ( though it sorta attend like dude Mona Lisa from here ) and has a more or less fishy history because there ’s no criminal record of ownership between the 17th and 19th centuries . The first proprietor was King Charles I of England , then Charles II , then nobody knows . Now its owned by a grouping of art dealer who brought it into the Metropolitan Museum of Art two years ago , to have it formally examined . A someone faithful to the Metropolitan said :

“ It had been heavily overpainted , which make water it face like a copy . It was a shipwreck , dark and gloomful . It had been clean many fourth dimension in the past by people who did n’t have it off good . Once a preserver put artificial rosin on it , which had turned hoar and had to be removed fastidiously . When they took off the overpaint , what was revealed was the original paint . You saw incredibly finespun house painting . All fit it was paint by Leonardo . ”
