Mo’ynoq was once a palmy porthole city on the Aral Sea in westerly Uzbekistan , famed for its sportfishing and canning diligence . Today , most of Mo’ynoq ’s visitors come to look at its haunting graveyard of ship , lying in the sand where the waters once flowed .
We ’ve written aboutthe recession of the Aral Seabefore . In the sixties , the Soviet government diverted the ocean ’s tributary rivers , causing the formerly freshwater body of weewee to turn piquant and shrink by more than 50 percent — thus remove the sea from Uzbekistan ’s only port metropolis . Waterfront properties like Mo’ynoq turn to dry dust , and many gravy boat owners failed to transport their sauceboat before the water retreat , leaving behind these monuments to the city ’s former glory .
