What was her life like at the time of the 2006 portrait? “Just working, things coming together,” recalls Bassett.

“Career seems to be humming. [You] find the one, true, beautiful love in your life. And then after years of you having the career, now you want the family. [Always wanted] the family. And then that being a bit of a struggle,” she says.

Bassett and Vance dealt with seven years of fertility struggles before welcoming the twins via in vitro fertilization (IVF) and the help of a surrogate. “And then with a bit of science and a bit of faith, that came into being,” remembers Bassett. “So it was a perfect moment. These two, beautiful, healthy, young beings came into being and they were just cute as can be - and they still are.”
