Any eyes in San Francisco that were n’t concenter on Apple ’s announcements yesterday might have mark something peculiar in the skies over the Bay area . As part of theZERO1 Biennial — a months long festival celebrating the come together of artistic production and engineering — an artist known only asIshkyused several plane to skywrite the first 1,000 digit of Pi over the city , in a piece smartly ( and patently ) titledPi in the Sky .
The stunt used five planes fly in formation equipped with synchronized dot - ground substance - like pot printer to slow spell out the chronological sequence . Each digit appraise almost a half - mile in height , so anyone on the ground could easily secernate the telephone number , even though the plane were flying at almost 10,000 pes . A sixth craftsmanship was used to film the stunt from the air , but the wider view from the ground made the piece seem far mor grandiose .

But not everyone was impressed with Ishky ’s work . There are several picture on YouTube , include this time , of Bay area occupant who were left all confused and more or less concerned over a seemingly random sequence of number appearing in the sky . I hope you ’re glad , J.J. Abrams , because Lost has made us all paranoiac of mathematics . [ ZERO1 BiennialviaLaughing Squid ]
