When Butler, 32, appeared onThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy FallonMonday, theDune: Part Twostar shared that he got to meet Sting — real name Gordon Matthew Sumner — at the new movie’s New York City premiere on Sunday.

“I met him last night, he came to the premiere. It was so surreal. My mind was blown. He’s the best,” Butler said of meeting the former Police singer/bassist, 72, who previously played Butler’sDunecharacter Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in filmmaker David Lynch’s 1984 adaptation ofDune.

“He came up afterward, and he was so, so, lovely and just debonair,” Butler said of their meeting. “I asked him about [starring in the originalDunemovie] and he said he still has the codpiece from the original [Dune], he said he’s going to dry clean it and let me wear it if I want to.”

Sting played the villain Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in 1984’sDune, which costarred Kyle MacLachlan as Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet’s character) and envisioned the villain as a red-haired man. Denis Villeneuve’s newDunemovies split the iconic 1965 Frank Herbert novel into two parts, and as such, Feyd-Rautha did not appear in 2021’sDune: Part One. Trailers for the new movietease him as a primary antagonistfor Chalamet, 28, in the sequel.

In the new movie, Butler portrays the character as a completely bald and ruthless killer. “The thing with a villainous character — I’d never played a character quite like him, and I didn’t want to judge him, so it was a lot of imagining what his childhood was like,” Butler said of adapting to the role onThe Tonight Show.

“That was surreal; there was 4,500 fans in the audience and they were screaming and I’d never been in a movie with that many people before, it was incredible,” he said of the screening.
