While the new DC movie universe is starting totake embodiment , Warner Bros. still has a few movies left over from the quondam government it ’s releasing this year . One of the more interesting ones is Blue Beetle , whose promotion has been fairly minimal since itsfirst trailerhit a few months ago . But with the celluloid just over a calendar month away andThe Flashnow out of the gate , it ’s time for Xolo Maridueña ’s Jaime Reyes to get the glare .
Having just had an alien scarab fused to his spine , Jaime ’s still hear to figure out what all it ’s up to of and how he can check it into his life after recently graduate from college . But his crash course in being a superhero gets even more complicated when Victoria Kord ( Susan Sarandon ) comes attend for the scarab and send her goons — include Raoul Trujillo ’s similarly armored up Indestructible Man — to get it . The setup feel like a mix of Venom and the original Iron Man , but considerably more destructive since Jaime has no real control over the alien state of war machine that grants him armor , flight , and other sorting of powers .
Director Angel Manuel Soto antecedently said this movie was a high spot spool of what make the character nerveless , and you may definitely see that in how his powers attest and the direction he summons a big anime steel . But what also induce Blue Beetle worth checking out is how charming Jaime and the rest of the Reyes family are , and the film continually highlight how aware they are of the threefold life he ’s eventually go to direct . That family direction is n’t really in other movies of this eccentric , so seeing it here helps it stand out from the crowded pack .
