Tonight on Stargate Universe , the Destiny crowd receive a novel , maybe habitable major planet . The good news is , this look a snake pit of a lot better than lasts hebdomad ’s bad instalment .
Last week , due to unforeseeable condition , I missed doing the SGU recap . I ’m abysmally dingy , because this sequence sincerely deserved a few Good Book . So , I ’ve included my entire review at the bottom . Feel free to ventilate , yell or take issue . Again , very sorry for miss the recap , I wo n’t break down you again !
But rent ’s look frontward — here ’s the poke and a unexampled time from tonight ’s SGU installment , “ Faith . ” I like the idea of giving everyone on the ship what they want , but not what they need . And taking it all aside from them — finger crossed they will actually extend a plot through an intact installment this time .
Our Recap of Divided :
Right this raw episode strikes to the heart of everything I dislike about this series . The labored - handed over - the - top soundtrack . Chloe makes her Evanesce euphony television debut , wander the halls of Destiny in a daze . No , I ’m josh — it ’s the musical group Brand New , playing “ You Wo n’t make love . ” But it does n’t it really matter , does it ? It ’s still a unspeakable , horrifying song to squeeze into the intro of this show . It just deflower any chance this setting had of making an impact on the audience . Chloe walks down a darkened hallway — and prompt the band and the clear show , it ’s showtime .
The sad part is , this is actually a fairly cool / interesting minute for SGU . Chloe is having nightmare , because she was abducted by foreigner — what does this mean ? Do the aliens still have ascendence over her mind ? Did bad things materialize to her on circuit board of the exotic ship ? Sure it was ultra contrive to have her female parent standing on the other side of the Methedrine , playing man in the mirror or baby in the fishtank , or whatever . But it looked great . And we like that Chloe ’s personality is getting a chance to be flesh out .
It was a well - blastoff and bewitching here and now , that provide some deepness to a reasonably one - dimensional character . And yet it is just absolutely ruined by this horrible song . Can you conceive of if they had re - edit this integral scene without the screaming vocal ? Was anyone else even paying tending to what was actually happening ?
They even have the aspiration alien spotlight hit her right at the crest of the song , like something out of a music video from 2002 . I was literally waiting for a pan right , to see a host of blue alien rock music stars wailing into alien mics in the corner with tight jeans , blue foreign someone plot , and extremist - cool alien guyliner . Enough Is Enough . Stop undoing all the tough piece of work the writer , gang and cast are doing on this show with your soundtrack , SGU .

Moving on — Chloe is pissed because her military boyfriend is endeavor to be helpful , “ Ugh , what should I — move on , get over it ? ” she bitter dumps onto her beau lap , in her best pouty voice . I find myself right alongside with what’s - his - face : Whoa , turn down the Bitchy anger please , I did n’t suck you into a brightness level , drug you and engorge you into a fishtank . A little linear perspective , please . But it turns out Rush is also having incubus — aaaaah , twinsies ! I bid Chloe would have asked him who his dreams were sound give chase by as well . Was it Hoobastank ? I bet it was Hoobastank .
Ugh — moving on to vainglorious and skillful things , like the Destiny mutiny . This should be exciting right ? I ’ve been wait , what a whole episode for this rebellion to happen . The civilian are not loving the military machine ’s judgment calls thus far . And ya know what , I predict a bacchanal !
you may tell it ’s all buy the farm to go down soon because one , nothing is give time to breath on this serial . And two , Brody from the tank farming lab is all , “ What the scream is now , oh hey military individual TJ I did n’t see you there , I was talking about uh … .er … … uh … .. Bridge Club….yeah , yeah that ’s it Bridge Club . I love cards , just fuck it , and we bet Bridge now . Nothing suspicious to see here . ” I care I was making this up . So clearly he ’s not on the civilian team planning a mutiny this very second . He sure enough take out one over on old TJ . By the way TJ , you ’re fired .
Meanwhile elusive as all hell Greer saddles up to Young and whispers , in the raspy means only unfeignedly crazy harden military types can talk in , and say , “ Hey remember that prison term when we all thought you pop Rush , but now he ’s back ? I was fine with it . Just thought you should know , for no other intellect than if there ever was a bunch mutiny , you eff out of leftover study , I ’m on your squad . Just FYI . Killing , you , me , we ’re upright . ”
So the lines are take out . And it ’s militaries versus civies . reckon what side newly pissed Chloe is on , not her beau that ’s for bloody certain . TWIST . Sheesh you guys , do n’t you remember 5 transactions ago when he was all “ I wanna assistance . ” And then she was all , “ ugh boys just do n’t understand HRUMPFFF . ” Yeah clearly he ’s just Not . Getting . It . So yeah mutiny is the only way , princess .
I really wish well they would have dig deeper into the damaged psyche of Chloe . She has aliens in her brain . There ’s good deal to say here over her cranky back and forth with her BF . It was a solid opportunity for her to reveal insecurity , issues , qualms , instead she just sided with Rush . Sure she afford the reasonableness that Young prove to kill Rush , but was anyone really convinced she cared about that abstract thought ?
But that ’s neither here nor there , because Rush has made his move . He quarantine the military mass from the civvies . But uh oh , the life support is on the military side , but the water and food is on the civvies side . Which imply if there ’s a stand off , everyone has three mean solar day to dwell . Interesting cold mate , does it matter … NOPE .
Why not , because Young is over on the civvies side lickitysplit , using the hole the aliens cut in the last episode . Convenient . And oh SHIT the aliens are back and raise weapon system on the starship , meanwhile Rush expose that the lash out unknown engraft a tracking machine in Rush next to his heart . Also convenient . You screw what would have been a cool scene , Chloe and Rush talk about their exotic experience and then finding out through wacky ancient go - ray space engineering on the Destiny that they have a trailing organisation next to their heart . or else we get this , “ I have this diddly-shit on my bosom so yeah plot kink . ”
And there is the genuine reason Rush decided to drive the mutiny date up , because he was afraid that Young would witness out he had a tracker in his chest and would airlock him . Remember when airlocking was an actual terror ? He ’s go to try and kill you , again , because that wreak so well the two other times . Sure fine neat whatever .
Next on the leaning of all cricket bat shit angle to throw into one gargantuan episode is this . Rush does n’t want TJ the FUCKING MEDIC to take it out his trailing gimmick . He wants Chloe the 12 - year - old to stick her hired hand in his dresser and remove the trailing equipment , because he does n’t trust the military . Christ on a banger Bull Shit . I ’m pretty indisputable if anyone on Destiny is stick their hand in my chest cavity , it ’s not go to be Chloe , wizardly Stone or not .
Then my fucking god in heaven everything goes back to normal . The aliens get out , rushing survives , the tracking machine is slay , and Young enunciate , “ let ’s sham nothing ever befall . ” The End . Reset . Do Not Pass Go , Do Not Collect $ 200 .
alternatively of tantalize out this plot and watching the crew of the Destiny slowly dampen into teams of civilian versus the war machine , SGU just decided to turn through it . Alright , fine . We already know that this show has no desire to extend actual plots very far . They could have kept Rush on add-in that alien ship for week , the audience never roll in the hay if he would be back or not . It might have even been interesting to see brainiac Rush manipulate the aliens and endeavor to break barren . Instead SGU hit the reset clit and plop him back aboard the Destiny in one prompt sequence .
The same goes for this episode . There was no dubiousness in my judgment when we feel out the mutiny was bechance , that the entire thing would terminate with a shiny bow on top .
In a foreign way , it ’s kind of like the old Stargate . Granted I am Not SAYING that is WHAT I require . I am only making the equivalence . Instead of the “ freak of the week ” we get “ massive crew drama of the week . ” allow ’s go for they do n’t run out of play , or come to their sess .
I ’d like to take heed your notion on whether or not this data format is working for you , the watcher . SGU prides itself on being realistic and dead on target to human form . But does this form of massive drama really happen that tight ? Is it too much for you to swallow each week ? Are they giving their character enough time to grow ? I ’m truly enjoying the revolt , and the dramatic play , but I find myself slightly uncommitted because I do n’t really know anyone ’s motivation .
Case in point , when Camille and Rush make their move and quarantine the military from the civilians , TJ is left on “ the wrong side of the product line . ” And so is some other military guy that I do n’t know or care about . I know nothing about TJ , so I really do n’t care what side of the line she ’s on . Therefore the dramatic shock is pretty minimal for me .
This whole installment was just wasted opportunity after pine away opportunity . So much to play with , and not a care in the populace to flesh it out . Sad .
Was there anything I like . Sure . I loved Eli ’s chemical reaction to the mutiny . He think the whole thing was unintelligent . So did I. Eli you and I are on the same page . Not to be rude , I really did like Eli in this , he ’s slow growing on me as the “ representative of the hearing ” especially in this episode . I also enjoyed the small attempt to make TJ more of a character and less of a airscrew . She went toe - to - toe with the civvies and basically say , “ you ’re fucked when Young get under one’s skin here . ” Well , they were n’t really , in fact by him being there it impel bang to man up and say he was the intellect the aliens were back , so they were economise . But it was cool to watch TJ show that she ’s no push over .
Besides that , the episode looked smashing , and that ’s all I can say really . Honestly I think tonight ’s installment could win me back . I enjoyed the half season premiere , it was SGU step up and move forward . This instalment , however was a monolithic step back . But I ’ve had a slew of playfulness with SGU , I ’m not giving up yet , and I count ahead to “ Faith . ”
