“Kurt Russell gave me a horse,” Fanning said with a laugh. Scott, 47, joked, “That could be your autobiography [title]. … ‘Kurt Russell Gave Me a Horse: The Dakota Fanning Story.’ "

Fanning explained of working with Russell, now 73, on the 2005 movieDreamer, “We made a movie about horses. Kurt is one of the loveliest, most amazing people. You go through an experience together, and I loved working with him so much, and we made a movie about horses, and he gave me a horse.”

Dreamer, about a father-daughter duo who bond over helping an injured race horse heal, also starred Kris Kristofferson, Elisabeth Shue and David Morse.

“Because I grew up familiar with being around people who would be considered ‘intimidating’ kind of, I think it might’ve numbed that side of me a little,” she said. “When you’re 8 years old you’re sort of just getting to know a person as a person and not thinking about all of the other stuff, you know?”

“I went to her mom and dad and told her what I really wanted to do was get her a horse. I wanted to make sure that was okay with them — it was a big commitment for the whole family,” he said at the time. “But I’ve seen her with the horse and it’s a great thing.”
