Just over a calendar week after themassive Google walkout , some tech companies are taking strides toward ending a ordinarily used practice in Silicon Valley and elsewhere to keep conflict out of the limelight . And on Monday , it was expose that two more companies watch over suit .

Forced arbitration street child an mortal ’s right wing to a trial by panel , or else thrust disputes to be settled by a third political party behind closed doors . Both eBay and Airbnb say they are ending forced arbitrement for intimate harassment claim , asBuzzFeed first reported . eBay confirmed the news to Gizmodo in a statement .

“ eBay take great pridefulness in foster an inclusive cultivation that allows employee to experience comfortable and boost to report any workplace issues , ” an eBay voice told Gizmodo in an electronic mail . “ We ’ve adjusted our existing employee policy regarding sexual torment claims to better reflect and encourage eBay ’s value of being open , honest and verbatim . ”

“ Today , we are announce changes that reflect conversations we have had with employees and outside experts , ” Airbnb tell BuzzFeed on Monday . The statement continue :

From the beginning , we have sought to ramp up a refinement of wholeness and respect , and today ’s changes are just one more step to drive belonging and integrity in our workplace .

“ We will not require our employee to habituate arbitrement in cases involve favoritism in the workplace . to boot , we will not command employees to use arbitrament in cases involving sexual harassment . Airbnb and eBay are following in the footsteps of a number of other tech company that have recently eliminated mandatory arbitrament for these specific claims . In the wake of the walkout , Google CEO Sundar Pichaiannounced in an emailthat the company would eliminate force arbitration for sexual harassment claims , though this change wasonly take at full - time employee .

Facebook , which told Gizmodo in Februarythat the fellowship requires all conflict be adjudicate through arbitration , announced just a daytime after Googlethat it too would be getting rid of mandatory arbitration for sexual molestation claim . These announcements   follow similar modification made earlier this year byMicrosoftandUber .

Many tech society still require force arbitration for other type of claims — including , most egregiously , claims of discrimination . This reflect how technical school ’s Time ’s Up movement has yet to make any intersectional headroom . And often , companies preserve to prevent employee frompursuing class - action lawsuitsover certain claims . What ’s more , it ’s unclear if tech troupe ’ monumental contractile organ workforce   will ever gain ground the ability to have their difference heard in court .
