Gavin DeGraw Approves T-Pain’s Cover of ‘I Don’t Want to Be’: ‘Love It Man’

DeGraw, 46, shouted out the record producer after he released a cover of his song “I Don’t Want to Be” as part of a live album and accompanying set titledOn Top of the Covers (Live from The Sun Rose).

After T-Pain, 39, shared a clip of the performanceon X, formally known on Twitter, DeGraw shared the video on his own social media account and wrote, “Love it man!”

“I Don’t Want to Be” was released as part of Degraw’s 2003 debut album,Chariot.It also served as the official theme song for the hit teen dramaOne Tree Hill, which aired from 2003 to 2012.

Other Auto-Tune-free covers on T-Pain’s latest album include Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” and Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me.” T-Pain called the album featuring him singing live a “holiday gift” to his fans.

These songs are not what you’d expect when you hear that T-Pain is doing a covers album and that is what I think is cool about it,” his statement read

“I didn’t have a chance to come into the game with my natural voice and a lot of my peers did and they get accepted.This helped me get my voice out there,” he shared after being declared champion.
