Workers at Google harbinger on Monday that they ’ve formed a union open to all actor of Alphabet , allot to a press going publishedonline . Dubbed the Alphabet Workers Union , the initiative was launch with the help of the Communications Workers of America . Members of the new union will also belong to CWA Local 1400 .
The unionisation effort comes on the heels of some mellow - profile firings at Alphabet , most recently Dr. Timnit Gebru , an hokey intelligence researcher who had criticize the society ’s patheticdiversity programs . More than 1,500 Google employees sign a petition protesting Gebru’stermination .

The young unification will be open to both full - time employees of Alphabet as well as contractors , fit in to the press outlet , though it ’s not clean how such an arrangement will work . Contractors in industries like news media typically are n’t allow to join the predominant unions of a given industry since they are n’t full - time employee and are kick downstairs to parallel freelancer marriage .
