Kate Middleton announces cancer diagnosis on March 22, 2024.

Kate Middletonincluded a poignant tribute to those diagnosed with cancer in her recent video announcement centered around her own diagnosis with the disease.

In avideo messagereleased on Friday, the Princess of Wales, 42, revealed that she has cancer and is receivingtreatment. The royal received the diagnosis following herabdominal surgeryin January, after post-operative tests “found cancer had been present.” Kate is now undergoing treatment.

In the emotional clip, which was filmed earlier in the week and shows Princess Kate sitting on a bench in the gardens outside Windsor Castle, a row of yellow daffodils can be seen blossoming from a shrub in the background behind her.

The princess said the diagnosis was a “huge shock” and that she and William, 41, “have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.”

“As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment,” she continued, adding that their children,Prince George, 10,Princess Charlotte, 8, andPrince Louis, 5, were told of the diagnosis before the public announcement.

Princess Kate’s cancer diagnosis update came after her abdominal surgery, for which shespent 13 days at The London Clinic, in January.

King Charles, who is also currentlybeing treated for cancer,shared his support for his daughter-in-lawamid her diagnosis on Friday. The King is “so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did,” a Buckingham Palace spokesperson told PEOPLE.

Charles, 75, has “remained in the closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law throughout the past weeks” and “will continue to offer their love and support to the whole family through this difficult time,” they added.

Meghan MarkleandPrince Harryalso released astatement in supportof Kate. “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace,” the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said in a statement shared with PEOPLE on Friday.
